About Puzzletown6255

A contemporary, world-class interactive attraction based on puzzling of
all kinds. Designed to entertain and engage all ages.

Who We Are

Puzzletown6255 is a contemporary, world-class interactive attraction celebrating the art, history and joy of puzzling in all its forms. Designed for all ages, it brings together hands-on activities, heritage stories and one of the most remarkable jigsaw puzzle collections in the Southern Hemisphere.

A Truly Unique Collection

Home to hundreds of jigsaw puzzles dating back to the 1940s, Puzzletown6255 proudly showcases the extraordinary original Brierley Collection—the heart of what is now believed to be the largest display of mounted jigsaw puzzles in the Southern Hemisphere.

The collection began in 1945, when Mrs Jessie Brierley, a determined and forward-thinking woman, purchased the de-licensed Warner’s Hotel at the southern end of Hampton Street. She transformed it into a boarding house known as Nelson House, where she introduced a tradition of puzzling shared with her family and guests.

Visitors from across Australia and around the world contributed puzzles over decades, gradually shaping the collection into a rare and internationally significant treasure.

A Gift To The Community

In 1978, upon her retirement, Mrs Brierley gifted her entire puzzle collection, along with funds to establish a dedicated gallery at 154 Hampton Street (then the Bridgetown Tourist Bureau), as an enduring gesture of gratitude to the Bridgetown community.
Nelson’s fell into decline after her departure, until 1988, when it was purchased by a young and visionary couple, Grahaem and Megan Donovan (known by many fondly as Basil and Sybil). Through energy, creativity and commitment, they transformed Nelson’s into a multi-award-winning accommodation and hospitality business while continuing to honour Mrs Brierley’s legacy.

A Vision Realised

It was Grahaem Donovan who first proposed, in 1997, the idea of transforming the Brierley Jigsaw Gallery into a vibrant modern attraction. This vision has come to life through:

  • Exceptionally generous support from the Puzzletown6255 Gift Fund, a registered charitable foundation established by the Donovan family
  • State Government support following the closure of logging in old-growth forests, recognising Puzzletown6255 as a valuable regional development initiative
  • The ongoing encouragement and support of the descendants of Mrs Jessie Brierley, who remain deeply connected to her legacy and the story of the collection
  • Contributions from a dedicated team of volunteers and community members

Our Partnership With Mr Bob Puzzles

In 2019 as part of an inaugural invitation only local art exhibition held in Bridgetown by the Tourism Association we began a partnership with Robert(Bob) Williams to add another dimension to the artwork.  We had twelve limited edition puzzles cut of the winning artwork and sold these to contribute to the funding of the Association.

As part of our mission to support creativity and craft in regional Western Australia, Puzzletown6255 has teamed up with Mr Bob Puzzles to bring premium wooden puzzles to the heart of Bridgetown. Visitors can explore a behind-the-scenes look at puzzle production, view exclusive collections, and shop handcrafted puzzles made onsite with locally sourced artwork.

This collaboration strengthens our commitment to showcasing Australian design, quality craftsmanship and meaningful creative partnerships.

Puzzletown6255 proudly partners with Mr Bob Puzzles to bring handcrafted wooden puzzle-making directly into our onsite workshop. Every puzzle begins with artwork—often created by local Western Australian artists—which is professionally printed, mounted, and then transformed into a high-quality wooden puzzle using precision laser-cutting and Mr Bob Puzzles’ signature cutting styles.

This collaboration allows visitors to see parts of the puzzle-making process, learn how wooden puzzles are designed and crafted, and appreciate the care and detail behind every piece. Together, Puzzletown6255 and Mr Bob Puzzles create small-batch, locally made puzzles you won’t find anywhere else—supporting regional creativity and offering truly unique keepsakes.

Community Collaboration & Partnerships

Community spirit sits at the heart of Puzzletown6255. The project has been shaped through meaningful collaboration with local organisations, volunteers, cultural groups and regional partners who share a passion for preserving Bridgetown’s heritage and creating new opportunities for the future.

Puzzletown6255 continues to grow through partnerships with:

  • Local community groups and volunteers, whose time, knowledge and enthusiasm help bring the stories of the collection to life
  • Bridgetown–Greenbushes cultural, tourism and heritage organisations, working together to strengthen the region’s creative identity
  • Local schools and educators, supporting learning programs that inspire young thinkers, makers and problem-solvers
  • Small businesses and artisans, contributing craftsmanship, expertise and local flavour
  • Regional development and tourism partners, ensuring Puzzletown6255 plays a vibrant role in Bridgetown’s evolving visitor experience

These collaborations ensure that Puzzletown6255 remains a living, community-powered attraction – one that honours its heritage, supports local creativity, and welcomes visitors into the shared joy of puzzling.
